After a nearly 2 year hiatus, Melbourne's art- terrorist/wankers This Is Serious Mum (TISM) returned to their hometown stage tonight for the first of two sold out shows to shamelessly flog their new album "DeRigueur Mortis".
They started with their new single, "If You're Not Famous At 14, You're Finished" and as early indication of what we were in for, singer Ron Hitler Barassi dove straight into the foaming mosh before the song had even reached the first chorus.
The set was mostly new songs such as "Thou Shalt Not Britney Spear", "Honk If You Love Fred Durst", "14 Years In Rowville", "B.F.W. (Big Fucking Whoopee)" mixed in with some of the old favourites, "Saturday Night Palsy", "All Homeboys Are Dickheads", "He'll Never Be An Old Man River", "Greg, The Stop Sign!", "I'll Have Ya" and finishing with a fucking awesome version of one of my faves, "Death (Amway, Amway, Amway)".
Nothing much has changed with TISM, it's still 7 guys in balaclavas with a truckload of samples, a drum machine and two guitars. As such, it's brilliant. The dance routines were as stupid as ever, the new songs sound great - a little less techno and a bit more guitar - and the leaf blowers were fun.
The band invaded the crowd a total of four times.
