it's pretty obvious that all of you above this post (except the last guy) are idiots. here's the simple truth:
1. the only reason anyone buys Madonna's albums is because of her image. they simply assume that whatever crap she puts out is the next "in" thing. and usually it is because people are sheep. the only positive thing she adds is that she surrounds herself with great musicians and producers. even her voice on most of her last albums is all digitally screwed with. watch evita again, her voice is not strong enough to do an opera, like that girl in citizen kane.
2. the only reason anyone buys Mariah Carey's albums is for her voice. she can hit notes that no one else in the world can. Of course her lyrics pretty much deal with the same overly-sappy crappy issues of overcoming problems or saving the world with butterflies or something in every song. and she only uses the same 4 melodies for all 15 of her number 1 hits. but her voice is incomparably better than Madonna's even though her music is less interesting.
all in all these are 2 "artists" whose amount of money made and fame far exceeded their talent, and quite frankly neither of them should charge another soul for any of their music or movies. the only thing that can be said of their careers is that they have taken pop music further and further away from musicality and more into image and repetition. and they don't seem like very nice or intelligent people in interviews.
