Well, if we are going to ban any literature that may influence people to commit violent acts, let's start by the Bible. It is a very violent book, filled with demonic images and supernatural phenomena dealing with the afterworld, aside from a lot of sex... It has been known to influence all sorts of murders, from the Crusades and the Inquisition, to serial killers, to abortion doctors' muderers... Hey, who cares that the real messages were distorted. Tipper Gore and the PMRC sure don't care about that in music...
The Judas Priest case: two depressed losers who were drunk and high, and because they heard the unrelated words of a Judas Priest song that in one part said "do it" (which was not a suicide song), suddenly committed suicide. Now, I call this natural selection and improvement of the gene pool. Hey kids, don't listen to the Nike commercials or you might blow your heads off! "Just do it!"
As for these "goths" that caused the killings, based on all the information I have gathered so far, there are other factors involved. First off, these guys were more like skinheads than goths. They wore confederate flags, and killed minorities, and on Hitler's birthday, at that... Second, they did this probably out of frustration with the highschool society and suburbia in general. That they pretended to be "goths" is one syndrome, but that they had "Ban religion" on their coats is another, and that they went after all the athlete jock heads who constantly teased them, plus gunned a few teachers, is another. Third, this was all ideological confusion as well. They mixed and matched different ideologies, adapted it into their own life experiences (minus a few lost screws and marbles), and viola! They concluded they had to murder people... Fourth: these guys were just plain insane, in case you didn't notice. They could have easily killed while being Beethoven worshippers... Hey about blaming the hellish high school social system, and these nuts themselves?...
And by the way, Marilyn Manson has never encouraged murder, and is not a racist (do the lyrics "everybody is someone else's 'nigger', I know you are so am I" sound like words that would make people kill minorites?)...
