I'd heard that the ending was being changed for the movie (don't know if it's true or not, but...), so I read the book to see how it was supposed to end.
I don't have much time at the moment to thoroughly discuss the book, for I'm on my way out the door. However, while it did seem to drag in spots, I feel that the book did a good job at grabbing the attention of the audience. As far as the bit at the end, I think it was reasonable. After seeing first-hand the corruption of the same agency she'd joined with such enthusiasm, it's not unexpected that she would embrace the very things that she started out fighting aginst. I found the psychological decent of Clarice Starling facinating.
I haven't read "Silence of the Lambs" in several years, so I can't comment on the comparison between the two. When the movie comes out, I'll be there to see it, although I may wait until it goes to the Hollywood Bar and Filmworks. That way, I can have a beer while watching the movie, just in case I need it.
