02/21/08: Nope

I got laid off due to the mortgage mess, and the girl got herself a gov't job. So, we're now in DC, even though DC sucks. What can you do...

Thailand was interesting, but too hot. I'm not built for hot weather and found it very tiring. I didn't get up north anywhere, but we did go down to the islands for a long weekend, and we made it out to Angkor Wat for a weekend as well (highly recommended, BTW). Bangkok was pretty cool, a really interesting mix of old and ultra-modern. The people were all very nice. One guy insisted I take a photo of his wife and kid. I gave him my email address so he could write and get a copy, but I don't think he understood...

Chinatown was pretty crazy. Tons of little back alleys and honeycombed mazes of stalls and shops and god-knows-what that go on for blocks and blocks. All the night markets are neat too. And of course I had to check out Pantip Plaza.

I did get sick of temples after a while, and like I said, by the end I was just so tired of the hot weather I didn't go out much. I also got tired of haggling over every little thing. You basically have to get into an argument every time you want to buy something, which is exhausting. At least I only had two cabs try to rip me off, most of the cabbies were pretty honest.

It was a relief to get to Japan where it was winter and prices are fixed.
