It's been along time since I saw the movie but I do know this. OPTO ELECTRONICS, you can find them on the net. Manufacture hand held Frequency counters. These devices receive just about every radio frequency transmitted in the spectrum and will display different CTCS, PL, DPL an other codes for opening squelch. I have an older unit and I use to use it for getting cell phone frequencies as well as unmarked cop car frequencies. If you really want to open a garage that has a automated garage door opener. Do it like the PRO's really do it. You see if you have the remote it makes alot of noise when the motor and light comes on. But if you use a thin long flat piece of flexible sheet metal or other thin material with a notch or a hook on the end. You can stand in front of the garage door in the center and insert this at the very top. Allowing it to bend forward in the garage. Once it is all the way in, use a gentle swipping motion from side to side and pull back as you do this. The object here is to hook the "RED EMERGENCY RELEASE CORD" on all models of garage door openers. This is MANDATED THAT THEY ALL HAVE THIS BY THE INTERNATIONAL FIRE CHIEF'S ASSOCIATION and the NEC and UL Laboratories. This is how the Fire department gains very fast entry into Garages all over the country. In fact you can buy this tool but it is a waist of money when you can go to Home Depote and make one for your self for pennys. You can practice this technique in the safety of your own garage until you perfect it. Trust me it really works and you dont have to worry about the light coming on or the noisy motor and you can raise it as slow or as fast as you want to. If you used a frequency counter and got the right frequency and code you would still have to have a transmittr capable of transmitting on such frequency as well as generate the right code. Their was a company a few years ago out there that use to manufacture a unit that would grab codes and transmit to infect do what the MOVIE showed but be for real. It was a movie.Thats why now all new alarm systems and remote systems have ANTI-SCANN Technology built in. My old car theif friends and I sat around and critiqued the movie and laughed at some of the BS but then we did give it credit for some things that they showed that we knew to be right on. We use to use Amateur Radio's that were capable of monitoring the local police channels and that were also very easy to modify to transmit out of band with the simple snip of a wire hear and there. and we would pick our own two way business or police frequency to work on. Always changing frequencies and using code names for everything. we all went by unit numbers like the old beeper codes. All the streets we worked had new names assigned to them and we gave our different TARGETS very specific names as well. We even had code names for the POLICE and regular joe blow citizen. One of our transmission might have sounded something like this. 816 to 321....go ahead 816....Phase 1 and 2 are completed and when clear we will begin Phase 3.....all units check status......388 clear....69 clear...65 hold on second.....BG heading south.....10- 4....65 clear BG is clear......321 to 816 you are clear for departure. TRANSLATION; 816 is telling commander that they have cut the chain at a car lot and have made entry into said car and have the ignition all apart and are ready to start it up and go as soon as he gets clearance. 321 asks the look outs that are staged at various strategic locations as far as 2 miles aways of the traffic in there area or possible witnesses. Unit 65 indicated that there was a BG and then it was clear. BG = Bad Guy = POLICE etc.Anyways I do not steel cars any more and have not for lets just say some amount of years over the statue of limitations.Happy hunting and remember Crime Does Not Pay.
