Would Churchill be the type of professor to encourage debate, or would he be the type to shout down those who disagree with him? I've had professors with pretty far- left opinions (went to UC Santa Cruz for 4 years - if you're looking for people who make Michael Moore look moderate, spend some time in SC), and some of them were genuinely interested in debate while others talked down to those with differing opinions. I like the idea of professors who challenge people's everyday conceptions, but it's a little annoying when they don't allow students to challenge their own conceptions (if that's the case, you're simply trading one type of indoctrination for another).
