Grand Theft Auto
If you're expecting to see something in this movie that would lead you to believe that Ron Howard would go on to be a successful Hollywood director, you're not going to find it here.
This is the first film directed by Ron ("The Da Vinci Code") Howard. The DVD is part of the "Roger Corman Collection." It includes a few extras and a typical introduction by Corman, which is lame. It also includes a commentary track by Howard and Corman.
Made in 1977, the story is simple, Sam Freeman (Ron Howard) and his girlfriend, Paula Powers (Nancy Morgan), steal Paula's father's Rolls Royce and head off the Vegas to get married. Paula's father hates the idea because Sam is poor and he would rather she wed Collins Hedgeworth (Paul Linke). Collins offers $25,000 for whoever can stop the couple from getting to Vegas. A car chase ensues.
From that point, there's scene after scene of cars flying through the air, crashing into each other and whatnot. If you're expecting to see something in this movie that would lead you to believe that Ron Howard would go on to be a successful Hollywood director, you're not going to find it here. It's a lame chase movie made on a shoestring budget.
