02/03/05: Bush's SotU Speech Made Me Nauseous

Posted By: Coaster

I'm sure the effect on me would have been worse had I actually bothered to watch it.

Bush went ahead, as expected, with his plan to gut the social security program and enrich his stockbroker/banker buds. He didn't address the issue of where he will get the 2 billion dollars it will take to make up for the shortfall when dollars are diverted to private savings accounts. No doubt, much of it will be gotten by gutting of education and current social programs; these are core objectives of the Republican Party. For all those who are not already retired or just on the brink of retirement, kiss your benefits good bye. All those who are younger than 55 can just shut up, bend over, and take it with a smile.

Thank God bush is still willing to defend marriage against those dangerous homos. I know my wife and I certainly feel out marriage is threatened every time we hear about a gay committed couple. Shoot, it's bad enough that we have to cope with the cancellation of Enterprise, let alone be threatened by same-sex couples in loving committed relationships. I wish somebody would PLEASE explain to me how allowing gay couples the same rights as hetero couples some how poses a danger to the populace. Chances are the person who steps up to do the explaining will also be able to do a convincing job of explaining creationism and intelligent design.

Perhaps Bush should have said to the parents of the slain veteran, "Sorry. My bad. I apologize to you and to the parents of the other 1400 military men and woman who have given their lives to a war I started without valid justification."

Perhaps Bush should have said to the Iraqi woman with the vote-stained finger, "And I'm sorry as hell about the 100,000 of your fellow Iraqi civilians who couldn't vote this time on account of us having blown them up or shot them. Again, my bad."

All in all, the speech was a decent prelude to the second act of what will no doubt be the worst presidency in American history.
