...into more stereotypical Christian bashing and ego masterbation.
Christians don't think...
Christians don't care...
Christians aren't curious...
blah blah blah.
Yes there are Christians like this. But that isn't so in every case.
I've met plenty of idiots who have believed in evoltuion. Does that make evolution wrong? No.
I could fire some of the same criticisms at those people.
"I beleive in evolution because Time magazine says its true."
"Evolution is true because I've heard there are a lot of Scientists who say it is."
They aren't curious. They don't care. They certainly don't think, especially since they isolate themselves from anything that might threaten their presupposed worldview.
A lot of people on this site are more close-minded than the Christians they like to make fun of so much.
And to answer why many think Gay Marriage is a "threat" to the sanctity of marriage. It's not a physcal threat, it's more of a theoretical one. We're talking about inherently changing the meaning of a word. And not the gradual change that a word is susceptible to through the natural cultural phenomena over the years. This is a change that a small group of people is trying to enforce on a larger group of people, and have it effective immediately. To me, this is a form of censorship.
I'm reminded when Caracalla bestowed Roman Citizenship on all subjects of the empire for the purpose of taxation. The signifigance of Roman Citizenship was effectively flushed down the toilet. The meaning of the term was abrubtly changed and then carried no weight. The effects of this were felt through the later centuries until the downfall of the Empire.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying Gays will bring about the fall of the US. I'm just saying we should be careful and think carefully what the repurcussions could be down the road.
For what it's worth, I think gays should have the right to be together in a relationship and have it declared legally and have all the benefits that entails. But I do not think it should be marriage. As it is, they already have the right to "marry", if you take the concrete definition of the word. Now whether the solution is Civil Unions or not, I don't know. Civil Unions bring forth a lot of problems on their own.
Anyway, these are my thoughts on the subject. Do with them what you will.
