05/04/05: Saw HGttG last night (possible spoilers)

...and thought it was decent enough entertainment..

Loved the first bit leading up to and including the demolition of Earth..

Also enjoyed the bit on the Vogon ship (and the Guide entries were hilarious!)

Things kind of slowed down a bit when the film focused more on Trillian and Zaphod (Zooey just wasn't right for the role. As much as i love Sam Rockwell, the writing for Zaphod was pretty weak), and i didn't really care for the whole bit where they go to meet John Malkovich..

Saving Trillian, though, was pretty good, and Bill Nighy as Slartibartfast was inspired.

Random comments:

Movie was slightly less cynical then the book.

Mos Def made a better Ford then i thought he would.

I got chills when they blared the theme music from the BBC miniseries.

The point of view gun was an interesting device, and while i wasn't a huge fan of how the ending was executed, having Marvin save the day by using the gun on the Vogon Army WAS pretty darned good ending.

Was surprised that they were able to drag the first book out into an entire movie, and actually hope that they do "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe".
