I don't have a problem with intelligent design theory - having God as the force behind evolution seems to be as good a way to look at things as any. However, teaching philosophy as science is not a good way to increase understanding of the universe - you can't prove or disprove the existance of God (in a scientific sense), so there's no reason to try and put God in science classes (especially since not everyone in any given class will necessaarily be Christian/Jewish/Muslim...)
