But no Will Smith. Sorry, buddy -- I guess you spent one too many years rappin' about "gettin' jiggy with it" for them to take you seriously. The much BIGGER slight is John Cameron Mitchell -- Kevin Kline over him? -- now that's just BULLSHIT. The even BIGGER slight is Steve Buscemi for "Ghost World." Ethan Hawke and Hayden Christensen over him??? What the HELL is this world coming to? The Supporting Female category is just ALL SCREWED UP and more proof than ever that once you're in the Guild's good graces, you're a lock for life (Judi Dench is fine for "Iris" but that "Shipping News" nominee has Lasse Hallstrom written all over it... although Kevin Spacey is interestingly missing.)
But props to Renee Zellweger for her nomination!
For the record, the Actors Guild nominations tend to run about 80 % the same as the Oscar nominees (though this year I bet money it'll be a substantially lower correlation). Also, the actors make up the largest overall sector of the Academy, so they usually have a lot of influence on Best Picture, therefore the Best Acting Ensemble nominees do mean something, even if there is no direct Oscar equivalent.
