A friend reckons the cat has been so long domesticated, it's developed a 'sixth sense' about humans.
Some think it's biological - cats can 'smell' chemicals released by the body as it begins the dying process. If so, then this cat wouldn't be in anyway unusual. It would be something all cats are noted for.
As far as I know, there is nothing in the lit to support the view that this is a widespread phenomenon. Hence, its 'newsworthiness.'
I think this particular cat is tuned in on some kind of level not available to human senses.
I don't know how 'testable' a phenomenon like this is, but it would be interesting to come up with some way of identifying a material explanation....
