But in the sense that oil is Iraq's income. This is what makes Saddam more dangerous than an average 3rd world dictator. He has a prime valuable resource that he can use to fund his personal indulgences and weapons programs, even at the expense of denying his people food and medicine.
I really don't think there's any oil business conspiracy. I don't think Dubya is smart enough to be that sinister. Cheney...well...everything I've read about him says he's cautious and not interested in playing global crusader, or he wasn't before 9-11. But since then he's been partially swayed by Republicans who think they can reinvent Iraq as an example of Mid-East democracy (pipe dream!!).
What we have is cowboy diplomacy. A few white- hatted "heroes" who can't convince the grey nations to join their posse. It's like HIGH NOON, but on a global scale, but in Bush's version, the bad guy is the one who was told to get out of town or else.
