Personally, I think NBC/MSNB/National Geographic Explorer all over-reacted. I suspect NBC acted out of chicken-shit fear that it's embedded (this war's catch word) journalists would be cast out by the military (who's still pissed at Arnett's dubious story in which he said that U.S. commandos had used sarin gas on American troops who had defected to Laos during the Vietnam war. He was fired by CNN for it.)
Clearly the war is NOT going the way the Bush Administration planned, if it is, they sure as shit are not very convincing when they say it is. Still, based on the media coverage of this war adn his past experience with CNN, Arnett should've known better.
So I say he was a fool. But he shouldn't have been terminated.
