I believe "Jakob the Liar" has won on at least one front: I just discovered that it was officially first. By a LONG way. It's actually a remake of a 1974 Berlin Film Festival-winning German film ("Jakob, der Lugner"), written by Jurek Becker and directed by Frank Beyer. So not only was the remake with Williams in the works at the same time as "Life is Beautiful," but its foundation is almost 15 years older. I think we should all now shut up about "Jakob the Liar" being a "LIB" copycat, or a cheap "LIB" knock-off, or a poor man's "LIB" and all this other stuff. "Jakob's" story is more original than "LIB's." That still doesn't make it better (NO WAY), but I apologize for many of the harsh things I said about "Jakob" in relation to "LIB."
