First of all, for those newbies or non-regulars who have no idea what the hell this is, it simply occurred to me a couple years ago that there were a million awards ceremonies and Crankyland didn't have one (anymore), yet we're just as smart as those idiots at the Foreign Press and the Academy and the Guilds, so I put this complicated affair together.
I have created a ballot, and over the next 3 weeks (in my attempt to net as many posters as possible because some people only visit this site every few weeks) people can vote in a couple dozen categories for the best and worst movies of 2002. And on February 9 (the Sunday before the Oscar nominations are announced), I will use the totaled votes in each category to determine the winners, then write a fanfic ceremony (that spoofs the other awards ceremonies) to announce our winners, which I will post for your amusement. Hopefully. Apparently I did a rather good job the first couple of years, but I've been in a gloomier mood lately, plus I'm submerged in the details of one of my sellable works of fiction at the moment, so I don't really know how much effort I will put into this year's, but I'll churn out something. The presenters (and host) are always Crankylanders, while a "real" representative from the winning movie accepts the award.

If you do vote, I will put you in the ceremony as a presenter (although I keep forgetting Critico somehow -- sorry, buddy!), but not voting doesn't mean you avoid my satirical wrath! More than 40 Crankylanders turned in at least a top ten list for the Best Picture award each of the past two years, which is good participation around here -- usually takes an all out flame war to get that sort of participation on this website! So I encourage you to at least give me a top ten list, even if the rest of the ballot looks like too much trouble.
I haven't really changed anything between this year and last year, except I added one category and tweaked the voting methods on a couple others -- all that's covered in the "Rules" post below. One different thing is that I always say "See my Best of the Year post for my ballot," but I'm too much in the weeds to complete that yet, so I'll probably post it next week.
ALSO (and I really hate to say this): PLEASE, PLEASE, I BEG OF YOU: SPREAD THE WEALTH. If "Two Towers" wins every single award, you're going to make this fanfic ridiculously difficult to write. "Fellowship" won a good chunk of the awards last year, but it wasn't a majority and it actually lost the BP award. However, there's nothing anywhere near as strong as "Memento," "Mulholland Drive" and "Ghost World" this year -- "Two Towers" is going to win BP without a doubt, but if Liv Tyler is leading by a country mile for Supporting Actress, I'll know I'll have my work cut out for me...
So without further adieu, on with the voting! (And I promise I won't screw up the vote-counting like Florida does.
