04/20/00: Von Strohiem

What an interesting guy. He plays Rommel in one of Wilder's early films. It's called Five Graves to Cairo... pretty cheesy, but well-written and acted. Strohiem is great. They don't subtitle anything spoken in German, but if you understand even a little it's great when he gets to ranting at his subordinates. You can't help but wonder if he's parodying himself.

Great movie choices! I have yet to see Gilda, too. I always think about renting it, then forget to pick it up.

BTW -- can you imagine Grant or Mitchum in Joseph Cotton's role in Third Man? The smartass or the pot-head...
