i would have to agree with the comparison of whit stillman more than hal hartley. you could see them both as influences--major influences. the ensemble cast of some pretty cool actors signified there was something worth watching. stoltz produced it--and normally his choices are smart ones. ie *sleep with me* it is a small picture.

perhaps any of our problems with the immaturity and continous droning of trivial antics disturbs us because it compares with any number of profoundly unproud moments in our own lives. but to me, the scenes i liked the best were also similar.

he shows promise as both a writer and director. he should maybe watch a little more richard linklater and a little less kevin smith.... sure it dragged, but doesn't life? why do we expect a movie to edit that shit out either. it's a million leagues over *porky's* or any other such bullshit hi-jinks comedy from the 80's...we should be thankful for that.

the story between grover and his girlfriend was intriguing enough to have been its own movie. it probably still should be made into one. would have worked as a short.

i will say that its title is so misplaced i rented it without remembering that i had seen it during its theatrical release. still, i sat through it again...maybe enjoyed it more....
