I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the movie, mainly because it seemed to be just like a thousand other horrible movies I had only half-watched. I can't really think of another movie that made me laugh so consistently, even Woody Allen. The most amazing thing about the film is how well-written it, but not well-written in the Hal Hartley/David Mamet way which is self-conscious and sometimes stilted. I assume Baumbach has some other writing experience because his father is a novelist and his mother is a (former?) movie critic for the Village Voice. The Creative writing teacher who rolls his eyes is Jonathan Baumabach, Noah's Father. This is probably the funniest and most accurate depiction of a C.W. class that I have ever seen, full of stupid comments, distracted students, bored teachers and one or two talented, serious writers. If you don't like this movie at first, give it a chance. Carlos Jocott as Otis is probably the funniest actor I've seen since Phil Silvers.
