07/11/00: Kid's stuff

Posted By: MAYORBOB

what is your fondest memory as a kid? Learning how to ride a bicycle without training wheels is probably among my fondest moments. Just something about being in total control of something other than myself for the very first time.

what was the worst accident you ever got into when you were a kid? The worst accident I ever personally witnessed happened when one of my best friends ran out onto a street and got run over by a car. I can still remember crying and calling the woman driver a killer -- it really wasn't her fault. The worst accident I ever had was falling out of a tree on my grandfather's farm when I was about eight. I was trying to show my cousin how I could fly and kind of learned all about gravity.

what did you want to be when you grew up? A policeman

are you that now? No.

why/why not? Cause I found out a). there was no money in it, b). I developed a dislike for firearms in the Army, and c). I am not basically a very confrontational type.

what kind of kid were you? I was quiet, polite, and fearful of my father who was a world-class alcoholic.

what would you tell the adult self if you were to go forward in time to the present as a kid? Grow up, dammit!

what would your adult self tell the kid if you were to go back in time to visit yourself? You know all those beachfront sand dunes down in Rehobeth and Ocean City? Well, save up all your money from caddying and delivering papers and buy up as much of it as you can.

what was your least favorite vegetable? Cooked spinach (I'll eat it in a salad, but cooked -- blech)

your most favorite food? Spaghetti and meatballs.

your favorite toy? A Whammo slingshot.

how did you discover about the birds and the bees? It wasn't until I got to high school that I even realized that girls existed. Somewhere between Hygiene class and showerroom discussions and double dates, I guess.

when did you stop believeing in the easter bunny/santa clause/tooth fairy/leprechans/the thing in the closet? (you do realize they aren't real, right? except the thing in the closet. it's still there. it just moved under your bed.) I know, and if that damn thing doesn't stop it, I'll have to do something. I stopped believing in Santa at about the age of five or six. I never bought into the Easter bunny thing. And my parents were too cheap to play along with the tooth fairy.

Nice poll, Mia.
