11/01/02: The kids/parents divide

Posted By: GuzziHero

This forum has sparked exactly the debate that the film itself intended. On the one side, we have the soft- core "wow, this is cool *@$Ģing stuff!" and the "lets find the moral in this" adults on the others. The truth lies somewhere in the middle.

I personally watched the film because I am doing research on street life for a roleplay game (Cyberpunk 2020). I found the film fascinating and horrifying. I was one of those boring stay-at-home kids who didnt have many friends, but the friends I did have (and still have) are friends I would die for. In that way, I havent experienced any of the situations in Kids. The important thing is this: The film was put here to make us think. To make the kids think "What if?" or "Maybe I should"...and to make the parents think "Jeez, that could be any kid...even mine".

Im not trying to make moral decisions that Im not qualified to. Im just saying talk with your kids and dont presume they are always the angels. One guy on here made an extremely valid point: middle class kids are just as subsceptible, even though their parents try hard to make sure they arent poor. Money helps, perhaps, but there is little more valuable in childhood than love.
