That guy was insane. As I recall he was a German who was a big fan of Steffi Graff. The German namby pamby court system did practically nothing to him by the way. If he had done that in the USA he would have been locked up for a long long time.
He was trying to help Steffi Graff and he did. Her career took off after that.
Sick but true.
I have also heard stories of Mafia types who have tried to screw with tennis players in order to win bets. Acts of crime don't count. We are talking about legitimate sports fans here not crooks and nut cases. The mob in the black sock scandal almost killed baseball. You can see it in the movie "Eight Men Out" by John Sayles.
