Seles had won 8 of the last 9 Grand Slams she had entered (losing & skipping Wimbledon). More importantly, Graf developed a mental block when playing against Seles. She simply couldn't win against her in big matches. The guy who stabbed Seles wanted Graf to be the best ever. he largely succeeded as Graf went on to win several more Grand Slams w/out Seles as competition.
