You can't count on two big underdog teams from two big markets going so far in the playoffs every year like this year with Chicago and Boston. Baseball will not be revived today that way. Not with all the other competing sports and entertainment choices out there today.
In the time of Babe Ruth an average pro baseball game took a little over two hours to play. Today it is creeping over three hours long. That combined with there being so many night games means the fans get home at 1 or 2 or even 3 o'clock in the morning. Naturally you can't keep your kids up that late. Plus you have had all these stupid strikes.
The adults have taken over kids baseball and over regulated it taking all the fun out of it. The kids are lucky if they get two or three at bats in little league games.
Baseball is doomed.
