The worst thing actually is the lack of base running. A baseball manager said the way to win baseball games is a walk, a single and a home run. In other words power baseball. But so called power baseball has taken the most exciting element right out of baseball. Base running, for people who have actually played baseball is easily the most fun thing about the game.
You are on base. You are in enemy territory. Oh sure the first base and third base coaches can tell you what to do. But really you are on your own. That's the real thrill. Trying to get home to score on your own. In a team sport this base running thing is the closest you can get to individual action.
Someone said recently that the triple was the most exciting thing in baseball. And when exactly was the last time you saw a triple in a pro baseball game?

PS: About the only thing pro baseball has done right is to refuse to allow metal bats. When they do that I may just start my own protest movement at the local ball park.
