The lot itself is 6550 sq. ft. which by my calculations is 0.15 acres. Then you put the house on that sq. ft. and there goes about 1400 sq. ft. and then you realize that the back yard will be distinctly separated from the front yard and the available space for the dog to run around in becomes something less than 0.1 acres for her/him to run around in.
Growing up we had an acre for our Saint to run around on and that was plenty though perhaps a full acre is more than enough. Anyway, all I know is I'd never keep a St. Bernard, even a smaller female, on that small of acreage.
So we'll probably just stick with cats until we move on to the next house which I hope to be on at least a half acre or more.
Thanks for all the advice and help though. And yes, we had a female St. Bernard and they are more frightening than you think when you're used to being around them and others aren't.
