10/15/04: self-indulgence

Both vol. 1 and vol.2 looks more like presenting what one feels about old movies and cartoons and mix them into one detached story that I can never relate to, except seeing some glimpse of what the director wants to present to the audience about his feelings about the movies of the past.

He did a good job mixing all the elements of old movies into one story of revenge, but there are so many elements of sadistic shock values that one wonder whether that's the driving force behind the direction of all his movies, since the only elements from old movies referred in this movie are that: sado-masochistic action sequences intertwined with flat and shallow emotions about love and revenge.

Maybe that's what the director garnered from seeing all those movies and cartoons, and want to present it that way. I would empathize given that I had similar experiences of seeing both east and west movies and cartoons for many years, but his views are quite twisted and shallow.

I would say what a waste of time out of precious life we have. No real substance or value in watching this or vol 1.
