I know that the beginning of this suit was posted in a Crankyland forum, so I thought it would be a good idea to post the end. Here's an excerpt from the Associated Press:

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A woman who claimed she was permanently scarred by a hot McDonald's hamburger pickle has settled her lawsuit against the restaurant chain. MAR Inc., which does business as McDonald's in Knoxville, admitted no wrongdoing in the agreement signed by a judge Thursday. Other details of the settlement are to remain confidential.
"McDonald's did not make any monetary payment whatsoever to the plaintiff in this case. We continue to view this as an allegation without merit," said Lisa Howard, a spokeswoman for the fast-food corporation

Damn it! If people are going to use our courts to sue each other, I say let us know the damn result! Ban all confidentiality agreements in settlements.
One bad effect of confidentiality agreements, of course, is that corporations get to hide the fact that they settled product liability suits because of a defective product. So it takes many years and many more deaths before a defective product is taken off the market, as happened in the case of defective tires recently.
But if there was no damn merit to a suit, why should there be even the slightest reason for a confidentiality agreement!? Give us the facts.
