FUNNY GAMES: I didn’t really know much about this movie before seeing it. I heard it was about an upper-middle class family and how their vacation is interrupted by the appearance of two mysterious strangers. A suspense flick. Well, I was in a bad mood one day, and I thought it might make me feel better to go to the movies. Ha! HA! This is the most disturbing film I’ve ever seen. And I'm not easily disturbed. I didn’t necessarily think it was poorly made, but I find it hard to believe anyone would enjoy it, outside of sadists or psychopathic killers. If you are either of these, definitely check it out.
I also rented two movies:
LOVE IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA: Eh. That’s my review: eh. I wasn’t terribly impressed, and it was mostly forgettable. I’ve never read the book, so I can’t offer any insight on the adaptation.
INTO THE WILD: Definitely the best of the three. I was really looking forward to seeing this one, and it didn’t disappoint. Based on a true story, it’s about a young college graduate named Chris McCandless who gives away his law school money ($24,000) to OxFam, and decides to shun consumer capitalism for a life of hitchhiking and living alone in the Alaskan wilderness. It was directed by Sean Penn and Eddie Vedder did the soundtrack.
