As for Mars... well it has the serious problems that come from having no magnetic field and very little atmosphere to keep the sun from kiln drying the surface everyday. The molten core of Mars slowly cooled over millions or billions of years (I don't remember how long it took) which weakened the magnetic field until the solar wind disintegrated Mars' atmosphere. Some futurists think we can reverse that by melting the Mars ice caps (which aren't water, but frozen CO2) and letting planets slowly convert that into O2. Though they have no plans to fix the magnetic field, which would leave any Mars colony exposed to all kinds of fun solar and cosmic radiation. Besides Mars may be in the part of it's orbit that is closer to the Sun... meanwhile it's Early Fall in Antarctica and the ice is still melting, Winter might keep that ice shelf from falling into the sea, but ten Kyoto treaties aren't going to save it now. The time to fix this was 20 years ago, now we're probably going to have to deal with a lot of crap until the mid-century mark. Enjoy "Climate Change" kids!
