when they had more than one $1M case.

Say you get down to 3 cases, and there's 2 $1M prizes and a low one left. The offer would be about $500K.

You might pick one more case, because even if you picked a million, the offer would only go down to $350K or so. And if you pick the low one - one MILLION dollars!!! (does Dr. Evil laugh).

I guess the same scenario would work whenever you had two high cases and one low. And if you're left with 2 cases, one of which is $1M, and one of which is very high - why not go for it? Makes for a better story.
