Not *as* prudish as the United States, certainly. But I did notice when I was learning French that the French dictionaries of the 1960s and 1970s were much more likely to not include certain words related to sexual and excretory practices than comparable American dictionaries. I don't have a clue why, since their movies and novels were a lot filthier than ours.
