10/16/02: Writers Market

Posted By: AbietheFishMan

Go to the library and get yourself a copy of the latest Writers Market. It's an annual report of publications, their editors, and rules for submission. Generally, you send in the story with a cover letter and a self-addressed, stamped envelope for them to send the story back to you. That last is a remnant from the days when stories were typed by hand. They'd send it back so you could send it to someone else.

And it's absolutely forbidden to shop a story to more than one place at a time. Wait until you're rejected by one place before you send it to someone else. NOTHING will piss off an editor more than that. You might as well write out your stories by dipping your dick in lampblack and dragging it across sheets of old newspaper.
