kundun is a movie with richness and cultural ties. it is very emotional if you know and understand buddhism and the trials that His Holiness the Dalai Lama went through in the first half of the century. i not only think the cinematography was excellent, but the (non-professional) actors were passionate and sincere. i can see how this movie might be boring for people who go to the movies to see tanks and bombers and dead people strewn everywhere (although there were a couple of dead-people-strewn-everywhere shots), but it really beholds the essence of buddhism -- stillness, passive resistence, and compassion. you gotta have a brain to watch this one, kids.
