01/28/02: Hey mendo

Yeah, it seems like the corrupt Bush administration is trying to keep the lid on a lot of things, not just Enron:

Apparently VP Cheney threatened Daschle against looking too closely at what happened that led up to the September 11 attacks:

"If the Democrats insisted, Bush administration officials might say they’re too busy running the war on terrorism to show up. Press the issue, Cheney implied, and you risk being accused of interfering with the mission."

Now the article doesn't say that administration officials actually ARE too busy running the war on terrorism (and considering the success they've had bringing in Bin Laden, that's not a record to run on), but that they'd SAY they were too busy. If that's not enough of a deterrent, Cheney is just fine with a threat: You will be accused of interfering with the mission.

And all of this bluster is just because the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence might have the temerity to look into what this administration knew in the days, weeks, and months before September 11, and what they did or did not do based on this information.

I wonder why Cheney is so resistant to another branch of the government looking into this? I also wonder if this might touch on some of the top secret talks he had with energy moguls about Enron's proposed natural gas pipeline across Afghanistan? Things that make you go, "Hmmmmmmm."
