...true story..
Back during the lockout of 94, there was a charity hockey game in my area.. Some notable nhl stars were in attendance (mostly red wings.. Paul Coffey.. Steve Yzerman.. Dino Ciccarelli.. Tim Cheveldae..A couple of other plays, like Adam Graves... Bernie Nicholls..)
Belfour ALSO was there..
After the game, alot of the fans waited outside in the parking lot, hoping for some autographs... (I managed to get Dino Ciccarelli and Red Wing Kris Draper.. Actually had some time to chat with them.. They were both good guys..I was literally standing RIGHT in front of Steve Yzerman, with his rookie card IN my hand, ABOUT TO BE TRANSFERRED TO HIS TO HAVE IT SIGNED, and freakin' Steve Thomas pushed me out of the way.. I have a deepseeded hatred for Steve Thomas, since that day.. Imagine it: An AUTOGRAPHED YZERMAN ROOKIE CARD.. Blech.. You suck, Thomas..)..and then came Belfour..
Now, my father has been a diehard Chicago Blackhawks fan for his entire life..HUGE fan.. And of course, back at that point, Eddie was 'THE MAN' in his eyes..It would have made his day to get Belfour's autograph.. By the time Belfour came thru the door, the throng of fans was pretty much dissipated..There were honestly about 5 of us left standing there.. Belfour came out with two security people, and without even acknowledging the fans waiting for him, he walked straight to his car..Of course, i followed closely behind, saying nothing, figuring that, when he reached his car, i could sneak up to him at his door and pull the old "My dad's a huge fan. It'd really make his day if i could just snag your autograph, mr. Belfour"..Well, Belfour made it to his car.. At this point, it was just my dad and i and the 2 security guys.. Belfour signed something for one of the security guys... At this point, i figured it'd be a good time to make my move... Pulled the line.. Belfour didn't even acknowledge me (i'm a foot away!).. he gets in his car, backs it up, aims in our general direction, and revs the motor a bit, causing us to quickly dash out of the way..
The guy is a MAJOR asshole, in my eyes..
