Scene 17 - Tuesday afternoon
The court reconvenes, and Violet steps forward to call a new witness.
“I’d like to call Miss Bagwendel to the stand.” Gwen is sworn in, and Violet begins the questioning. “Miss Bagwendel, who worked the concession stand the night Skilly was killed?”
“He said his name was Matthew.”
“Do you see that man in the courtroom?”
“Yes, yes I do. It’s that man, right there.” She points to a man at the back of the courtroom, handcuffed to a triumphant MEB.
The jury gasps. Nick the Knife stands up, “Bickle, buddy, why? Why?”
“She was my girl. Skilly and I, we had something, or so I thought. But I go away to England for a semester, and she runs off with the first yahoo who shows an interest. Marry Slothrop? Never! If I couldn’t have her, nobody else could! ‘Frailty, thy name is woman,” Bickle glares at MEB, at all the women in the courtroom. “She betrayed me, and worse, she completely forgot about me.”
Little Round Top rises. “In light of these recent revelations, the prosecution drops its case against Slothrop.”
The courtroom lets out a cheer as Slothrop is released and the bitter Bickle is incarcerated.
Red and Violet are seen leaving the courtroom together. “So, Ms. Beauregard, what do you think?”
“I think it’s nice to be in a fanfic for once where I’m wearing more than a bikini and get to use my brains instead of my rack.”
“Well, I have to admit, I’m pretty impressed by both,” Red confesses. Violet smiles and winks. I’m thinking Nick and Nora Charles here.
LHJ Wreck calls for the next case.
Attorney for the Defense, Beast approaches the bench, “ Your honor, I’m representing this dorm r.a. accused of killing all the girls on her floor.”
LHJ Wreck to the accused, “And how do you plead?”
“Not guilty by reason of they were driving me crazy! All I want is two seconds of peace & quiet. Is that too much to ask?” Pseu looks tired and distraught.
“Not at all dear, after all, you ARE the sweetest poster in this courtroom. Case dismissed.”
