Scene 5 - Later Saturday morning
Grundle and Nick the Knife are in Superintendent Coaster’s office. Coaster is pushing aside piles of paperwork in an attempt to find some chairs.
“Now, Mr. Grundle, tell me about this fight.” Coaster begins his investigation.
“Well, I was standing outside the Good Burger movie theatre and drive-in when I overheard their conversation, Skilly and Slothrop’s. I wasn’t listening or anything, I couldn’t help but overhear.”
“Oh yeah, you little ferret, you were probably lurking in the shadows, hanging on every word,” Nick interrupts.
“How did you know? I mean, I was just standing there.”
“Continue please, Mr. Grundle, and Mr. Nick, if you could control yourself.”
“Sorry, Coaster.”
Grundle continues, “So I hear Skilly yelling at Slothrop, and Slothrop yelling back. She was real mad, said he should have asked her, and they were going too fast. He was pushing her into marriage. She wanted to wait for a nice guy,” Grundle sighs.
“That is so not true, Superintendent. Skilly loved Slothrop, and she was looking forward to the wedding as much as he was.”
“Well then, Nick the Butthead, tell me, where is he then? Where’s Slothrop?” Grundle teases, knowing that Nick would do nothing to him with the Superintendent around.
“That’s a good question, Mr. Nick. Do you know where we might find Slothrop?” Coaster asks
“No, I don’t, but I know he couldn’t do this. I just know it.”
“Well, I think that if you see him, you’d better advise him to turn himself in, and we’ll sort things out.”
Nick and Grundle leave Coaster’s office, at which time Nick promptly pounds Grundle into the dirt.
