Scene 9 - Sunday morning

Little Round Top, Crankyland’s top DA, and his assistant Red are discussing the merits of the case.

Red complains, “We’ve been grilling him all night, and his story doesn’t change a bit.”

“Oh who cares. You heard what that Grungie person said. She didn’t want to marry him. He was pushing her. Women don’t date nice guys,” LRT barks at his assistant.

“That’s hardly motive for murder, Sir.”

“Well, where was he then? Why was he hiding out? What were they arguing about? We need to find out these things, or we’re gonna look like damn fools.”

“You’re right, his disappearance was certainly damning, but I don’t want us to have to go up against Violet Beauregard without as much ammo as we can get.”

“Hey, I’m with you. I’ve got some Civil War era cannons stashed in my backyard. Those should do for starters.”

“Um, I was speaking figuratively. You know, legal ammo, information, clues, facts.”

“You’re no fun,” LRT slumps pouting in his desk.

“Okay, here are the facts as we know them. Slothrop and Skilly have some kind of disagreement. Skilly is killed. Slothrop disappears. And then there’s that phone call.”

“Ah yes, the phone call. Do you think council for the defense knows about that?”

“She has to, it’s called ‘discloure’.”

“Hmph.”
