British DJ and occasional Crankyland poster Fat Boy Slim played in Sydney last night (Monday, which made it fucking hard to get a cab home at 2am). He is definitely getting away from the formulaic house style so many other big-name acts are bringing to my shores. However, he is using a few too many kitschy tunes, mixed together with maybe a little too much flat house which lasted a bit long. However he and the female support DJ weren't afraid to engage the crowd, a nice change from aloof 'kings of the dex'. Some of the tunes he mixed in were pleasant surprises, although others were abject failures. And surprisingly, his mix of that 'Bird of Prey' tune wasn't nearly as bad as it sounds on the radio.
