07/22/1999: I don't understand why you thought Cruise was unconvincing as a doctor, GM

His MD status was only important for about 4 minutes worth of film. When he was saving the model's life toward the beginning and when he was seeing a couple of patients a little later on. For the rest of the movie he could have been a stock broker or a TV station manager-- or a SPORTS AGENT and it wouldn't have mattered. In fact, the only reason his occupation had any significance in the film whatsoever was because his saving of the model's life was what triggered everything else. The movie was not about his job at all -- the only thing that mattered throughout the rest of the movie is that he made a lot of money, because the movie made the fact that he was somewhat independently wealthy an issue several times. Maybe you can say that he was unconvincing as a doctor in that ONE scene early on, but I don't see how his portrayal of a doctor had any impact on the rest of the movie or his performance whatsoever, primarily because his occupation wasn't really even referenced again, except for him calling himself "Doctor" to get his way into some places, like the hospital morgue.
