Well I'm no expert on music, but here's my opinion.
I seriously disliked rap until 'Gangsters Paradise' came out. Most 'rap' before that was just another word minus a 'c'. It consisted primarily of doggerel poetry, rhymes without reason.
I think it grew up.
Disco always seemed uninspired. The pieces that were good from disco were the kind that could've been 'covered' by a group with a different slant on the tune quite easily.
Like when The Bobs redid 'Disco Inferno' acapella.
