This movie was made for entertainment not as a historical documentary. Lawrence was the journalistic creation of Lowell Thomas, Sr. who was desperately trying to find a heroic figure in the morass of WWI. Richard Aldington, the biographer, made no friends in England when he documented that the Lawrence Legend was just that. Lawrence definitely did not win the war in Arabia--the New Zealanders did. Aldington also hinted that Lawrence's SEVEN PILLARS OF WISDOM should have been named SEVEN PILLARS OF BS. As one poetaster has written: "Col. Lawrence the transvestite, Was queer and very vain, Declared himself a hero, For blowing up a train."
