03/25/1999: I saw this on a 19" TV

Well at least it was the letterbox version! I know by all the comments I've seen over the years, this movie can't be fully appreciated unless seen on the big screen. Well I didn't have that luxury, even so I still enjoyed the desert scenery that everyone rants and raves about. The movie however became increasingly strange as it progressed. I didn't fully understand why all these Arabs quickly became obsessed with Lawrence. First they couldn't give a shit about him, then he save's some useless minion called Gossum and automatically they're lickin his boots and kissing his queer ass.

Especially Omar Sharif, his sudden behavioral turnaround in his actions towards Lawrence were too much of a leap. I couldn't accept his sudden devotion and admiration considering that in the first half of the movie he exhibited a hatred towards Lawrence. The performances were exciting and over the top but in a highly entertaining and comedic way. Alec Guinness as Prince Feisel to me was the most engaging character, he had some of the best lines I've ever heard in a movie, although he delivered them with an accent previously unheard anywhere on this planet.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, but even on a big screen I doubt I would consider this one of the greatest of all time. Scenery alone doesn't a movie make. Too many times it bordered on sillyness and the whole premise of Arabs worshiping this white guy didn't sit well. I know it was based on truth but I'm sure the real events are very different.
