Its not fair a to say that the the Arabs loved T.E. Lawrence just because he could ride a camel for a long time without water. He got along well with Arabs for many more easons than that. He spoke their language, he knew their religion, and he understood their culture. He was extremely intelligent and caring for the men he worked with and valued every life. He saved many lives and solved many conflicts, both large and small while in Arabia. This is why the loved him, not just because he was tough enough to survive the desert.
I would also like to comment on the idea that Peter O'Toole didn't look like Lawrence. O'Toole had no big screeen acting experience before this film. He was hired because he looked so much like the real Lawrence(especially in the famous picture taken on his camel).
Thomas Edward Lwarence may very well have been a few marbles short(most were lost in during the war, seeing what he saw would screw anyone up), but he was in no way a sissy-boy. He proved that many many times, not only by showing that he is strong enough not to let pain effect him, but act intelligently even when he has lost his mind.
I really wish people would learn more about the history before they mock such an important histrical figure, and great man.
