Unfortunately, testing cosmetics on animals is legally and economically necessary.

If you got makeup in your eye and went blind, you'd sue, wouldn't you? I sure would. Cosmetics companies have to be absolutely sure their products are safe before they release them. The only way this can be achieved is through extensive animal testing.

When a company claims that their products aren't tested on animals, what it really means is that they only use ingredients that someone else has already tested on animals. New ingredients still have to be tested. Most animal rights activists don't understand this concept because, well, they're morons.

So why do they keep introducing new ingredients? To get a marketing edge. If you don't keep improving your product, you lose market share. That's capitalism.

If you abolish animal testing, you're abolishing new consumer products. I don't see that that would be a great loss culturally, but economically a lot of people's jobs are riding on the constant influx of new products. Again, capitalism.

By the way, "vivisection" is an obsolete term. The practices that the term was invented to describe haven't been used in decades.
