1) Single egg explodes face-hugger onto unfortunate victim
2) Unfortunate victim dies when face-hugger explodes through chest.
3) Little alien, in the absence of other aliens, quickly grows to become a queen.
4) Queen lays a whole bunch of face-hugger eggs, then goes out and kidnaps and paralyzes a whole bunch of hosts, which she lays near the eggs.
5) Eggs, face-huggers, exploders, and THESE (because of the presence of the Queen) become drones/soldiers.
6) Queen specializes to egg-laying capacity only, while soldiers forage for food and more hosts.
This is a fairly common kind of life-cycle in nature, and not very complex at all.
And as for the little chest exploder growing quickly -- look, it's made of silicon to a large degree; and how much silicon is there in a spaceship? Tons! Little Alien grew fastfastfast because it was in an ideal environment.
