...the embryo delivered by the face-hugger no longer needs the host once it has developed into the next stage. Perhaps the corpse is kept nearby as food for the 'adult' form when the stored energy wears off.
Strictly speaking, while it has parasitic features, the Xenomorph is not a true parasite. Think wasps that sting spiders or catepillars and lay eggs upon them in hidden burrows.
